I am a writer, filmmaker and lecturer from Northern Ireland, now based between London and Belfast. My most recent completed film project is the miniseries Better Angels: The Gospel According to Tammy Faye. I developed the project and was co-writer and executive producer on it, too. The series was produced by Vice Studios, in association with Rocket Entertainment and The Magician’s Niece, which is the company I founded and run. The series was executive produced by David Furnish and Elton John. It premiered at Sundance in 2024.

I lecture and write across topics related to film, politics and psychoanalysis and (when I have time) I enjoy writing fiction. I co-run Everyday Analysis with my husband, Alfie. It is a small press and reading group that revolves around psychoanalytic, philosophical and political themes. Historically, I have been a co-host on a couple of philosophy podcasts. My book on film theory (Psychocinema) was published by Polity, in their Theory Redux series.

My main work, however, is as an independent filmmaker, creating self-directed and produced projects through The Magician’s Niece. My recent film A Guide to Making Love — an experimental philosophy documentary feature, completed during Covid — premiered at Rhode Island International Film Festival. My shorts have played at scores of festivals. Some of them have won awards and have been picked up for broadcast. Music videos I have directed, mostly for Central American artists, have been viewed over a hundred million times online. I have been lucky enough to receive funding for some of my films through bodies such as Northern Ireland Screen and Future Screens and I have been a Puttnam Scholar. Through The Magician’s Niece, I am developing a range of projects across narrative, documentary and video games.

Before film, I was a French teacher at Eton. I graduated with a double first from Cambridge in modern languages and received a number of academic awards during my time there, including the Bishop Green Cup for top student across all years and subjects in my graduating class at Corpus Christi College.
