The Outsider

The Outsider is a contemporary fable set in Belfast, told as if it is a documentary. Part dramatised, part improvised, it follows the story of a guard on an army base, imprisoned after an incident with his personal protection weapon and is told through the eyes of the filmmaker who investigates what happens. The soldier is played by a professional soldier and actor; the filmmaker is played by Helen.

The Outsider explores questions of double justice, alienation, impoverishment and the privatisation of the public space via the development of social media. Production is supported by Hugh Schulze, Brian Ivester and by Future Screens, as part of a research project into social media and experimental storytelling.
